Appointment of 8th Principal

Rev. Dr. Patrick Fung

Born in Hong Kong in 1959, Rev Dr Fung was trained as a medical doctor in Australia, graduating in 1983.

Yet it was during those formative university years that he encountered the life-changing grace of Christ—a moment that reshaped his calling.

He pursued theological studies at the China Graduate School of Theology and Fuller Theological Seminary, preparing for a life of ministry. Rev Dr Fung also obtained a PhD in Chinese Church History from the University of Hong Kong.

In 1989, he and his wife, Dr Jennie Cheng, responded to God’s call by joining OMF International (formerly China Inland Mission). Sent by their home church, they began serving in a Muslim-majority region of South Asia. Together, they are blessed with two children—a daughter and a son.

In December 2005, Rev Dr Fung became the first Asian to lead OMF International in its 140-year history, stepping into the role of General Director. Over the next 18 years, he shepherded and oversaw a team of more than 1,400 missionaries across different Asian nations, guiding efforts to share the gospel, establish churches, and foster local church-planting movements. After concluding his tenure, he now serves as OMF International’s Global Ambassador.

He is currently also serving as the Chairman of the International Board of the Chinese Coordinating Centre of World Evangelisation (CCCOWE). He has been a board director on the SBC Board of Directors since 2010.
