Dear Fellow-Alumni,
Greetings and God’s shalom for the coming weeks! SBC is all geared up for its 73rd graduation ceremony on 9 May 2026. We praise God for his goodness and mercies to SBC all these years. He had protected and provided for our every need.
As we see yet another batch of students who will be sent forth to serve the Lord in various capacities, I want to focus on Christ our solid Rock in whom we can trust and find our stability and bearing for today and all our tomorrows.?
Trust in the LORD forever,
For the LORD GOD is the everlasting Rock. (Isaiah 26:4)
He is ‘rock-like’ and therefore utterly dependable; completely reliable and fully trustworthy.?
So together with these graduands, who will be joining us as full-fledged alumni, let us together – TRUST IN THE LORD ALWAYS! Only the LORD, who is our Lord, can carry us through all the challenges and storms that we face, and will face, in the coming years.
Jesus concluded his teachings on the Sermon on the Mount with this beautiful application that we should take heed:
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall. And everyone who hear these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:24-27)
Jesus commands us to obey his words by trusting in him and surrendering everything, including our lives, families, ministries, gifts and abilities! To listen to his words and to do them is to obey them without questioning his authority and ability. Then we will be reckoned as that wise person who built his house on the rock, and the house remained intact amidst the storm, the floods, and? wild winds.
The chorus in an ancient hymn states it well:
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand!?
While we encounter changes all the time, and changes can often rattle us in different ways, Jesus Christ is our everlasting Rock. He does not shift even in the midst of tempests and hurricanes. He is the solid Rock that will never fall.
Therefore, let us lean on Jesus for our provision, our protection and our power. He is all these, and more! Go to Jesus daily for whatever you need. Call upon him at all times – both good and bad. Don’t just run to him when you are in trouble. Seek him daily for strength, wisdom, clarity, purpose, whatever else is needed for the day. Enjoy his presence daily through worship and the Word, through meditation and reflection. Take Jesus with you wherever you go because He promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you…(Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5)
Write Isaiah 26:4 on a card, or on your phone wallpaper, and read it daily. When you are shaken, read this all the more – JESUS! YOU ARE MY ROCK TODAY! I LEAN ON YOU. I WILL NOT FALL!
